Ride your bike, change a life
Last year between 2nd and 4th December 2022 Ride for Freedom asked people to get on their bikes to join a movement of people taking a stand against the shocking fact that human slavery not only still exists, but it is actually getting worse.
This event was designed to be inclusive and fun, so participants could set their own goals and take part in the way that suited them best, whether that was cycling 5km on a static bike in a local gym, or cycling a multi-day cycle challenge.
By doing so, participants were riding to support a survivor of modern-day slavery to cycle and successfully re-enter society via our Freewheel programme. Upwards of 50 people took part and fundraised in excess of £6,000.
December 2nd 2022 was the UN International Day for the Abolition of Slavery, and the participants who joined us – whether on static, urban, mountain or road bikes – sent a powerful message that modern slavery is not acceptable. Tragically, there are almost 50 million people enslaved across the globe.
Everyone that participated received personalised support with their training and fundraising, and and also received tips and motivation in the lead up to the event.
About Ride For Freedom
Ride For Freedom’s SDG 8.7 aligned mission is to harness the universal appeal of cycling to raise awareness, educate and forge partnerships to end modern slavery, and to provide remedy to survivors through its operational Freewheel programme.
Ride For Freedom achieves its mission by creating and leading unique cycling challenges and events and by partnering with high impact sports clubs, companies and aligned charities.
The cycling challenges fundraise to support the development of Freewheel by Ride For Freedom that empowers survivors of modern slavery to cycle.
The intended outcomes are that survivors will gain additional independence and mobility, and improved mental and physical health and wellbeing.
