RideForFreedom2021 Impacts

“Good on you, mate! Congrats on everything you’ve achieved.” – Ed Clancy OBE, 3x Cycling Olympic Gold Medalist

During 2021, Gordon Miller has led Ride For Freedom to deliver the following impacts against our four key metrics – to raise awareness, educate, forge partnerships and provide remedy:

  • +5000 miles cycled in the U.K. – extent from Nigeria-U.K.  Nigeria is a documented top 5 country of origin for MS to raise awareness and fundraise for Freewheel;
  • 1,800 miles cycled from Spain to the UK, via France, to highlight a documented human trafficking route, set a new Guinness World Record and fundraise for Freewheel;
  • Cycled to 20 Premier League clubs, during Euro 2020, to shine a light on child trafficking in football and fundraise for Freewheel;
  • Launched Ride For Freedom Cycle Revolution on UN Abolition of Slavery Day, ~200 people pledged to cycle >1.5 million revolutions to honour victims, raise awareness of modern slavery and fundraise for Freewheel;
  • ~1million social media views, more than 150 press and media interviews, including BBC News, BBC Radio London and podcasts – all speak to raising awareness;
  • +500 people presented to at townhalls, webinars, in-person /cyclists (Barking & Dagenham Cycling Club) which demonstrates the second metric, education;
  • Built partnerships with several corporates, charities, Premier League football clubs and national and international associations, local authorities, and cycling clubs to speak to the 3rd metric forging partnerships.
  • Developed Freewheel by Ride For Freedom, which we have successfully piloted in partnership with national charity Unseen, to provide remedy to several survivors of modern slavery to meet our fourth metric
