The FIFA World Cup 2022 will be held in Qatar, from 21 November-18 December. Human rights, and particularly modern slavery, abuses in the Gulf and pertinently in Qatar are well-documented.
To shine a light on the need for FIFA and the host nation to demonstrate respect for workers’ human rights and to mitigate labour exploitation (a form of modern slavery), Ride For Freedom invites you to join our campaign and ‘Show A Red Card’ to End Modern Slavery.
Please download and print one of the red cards. You can then ‘Show A Red Card’ when you visit your local football club, at home watching football on TV, or when you’re out and about during the World Cup or at anytime. Simply take a selfie and post it on your socials and use #ShowARedCard.
Gordon Miller, Ride For Freedom Team Leader, will cycle to visit all 18 London professional football clubs during the World Cup to ‘Show A Red Card’. Gordon will undertake his latest cycling challenge, between 2-4 December, as part of our annual Cycle Revolution fundraiser.
Will you also use your pedal power and ride your bike to change a life?
“Show a red card” to end modern slavery and human trafficking in football. The miles you ride and the funds you raise will empower survivors of modern-day slavery to cycle and support their successful re-entry into society through our Freewheel programme.
Gordon’s aim during his 200km Cycle Revolution ride is to pedal through his annual target of 10,426 kilometres (6,478 miles). He made this pledge in January 2022 because it’s the return distance from London (where he lives) to Doha (the capital city of Qatar).
Wish him luck!
